safari 6.1 plugins turned off by default

It took me a while to figure out why our Flash banners weren't animating in the current version of Safari.

It turns out this is a user preference: under Advanced, uncheck "Stop plug-ins to save power" in order to see your beautiful ad banners come back to life.

Clicking on the Flash element also starts it up, but you shouldn't have to do that.

Bonsai js for html5 banners

I came upon http://pixelplant.com/  for converting Flash to HTML5. I wouldn't mention it, because it didn't work very well in my tests, except that their js library looks promising for banners: http://bonsaijs.org/

Skip it

The service offered by SkipIt is: for ten cents, you don't have to watch their video banner. They seem to be targeting seniors, maybe because those are the people least likely to know how to block ads any other way.

Responsive ads... waht a concept!

This fellow has a "responsive ad checker"
http://matthewjamestaylor.com/responsive-ad-checker

I think it will take a while for the slow-moving display advertising industry to stop thinking in terms of 160x600, 300x250 and 728x90, but it will happen.

IAB announces html5 ad spec recommendations

Even though
it is too early to declare a guideline or specification for HTML5 ads
They are just coming short of doing this.
Display ads should have a border, live in an i-frame, be 75-100k including fonts and libraries, etc.
